Tournament Information

This Help Topic combines information for two screens that you use to provide Tournament Information -- Course Definitions and Tournament Specifications.

Course Definitions

Completion of this screen is simply a matter of providing information that is likely on your course scorecard -- the Yardage, Par and Handicap Hole Rating of each hole, and the Course and Slope Ratings.  Note that there are two separate areas for course definition -- Primary Tees and Alternate Tees.  As noted, provision of information for the Alternate Tees is optional.  The usual use od Alternate Tees is for Mixed Events where men and ladies are playing from different sets of tees, but it applies to any situation where the player field is split between two sets of tees.  We suggest that you provide Alternate Tees information for all the Tournament Numbers so that it is readily available for future tournaments that will use the same Tournament Number (i.e. one of the 10 "Slots" on the Tournament Selection screen.)

Movement from field to field on this screen is automatic as you enter information -- always for Pars, when there are 3 characters in Yards, and when there are 2 characters in Handicap Holes. Otherwise, use the Tab Key or Enter Key to move to the next field.

Once you provide the information for a given Tournament Number it is retained for future use, and modification if necessary.  However, the information for each Tournament Number is separate, that is, unique.  Therefore, you will have to provide all the information the first time you use each slot.

Tournament Specifications
It is on this screen that you tell the GTM Program how to score your tournament.  There are five basic Scoring Categories from which to choose -- Individual Gross, Individual USGA Net (for players with established handicaps), Individual Callaway or Peoria Net (for players without established handicaps), Team Gross and Team Net -- and a variety of Scoring Formats within each category.

You may choose any number of the five Scoring Categories for a tournament (the Individual Net categories require that you have players for the selected handicap type).  There are some restrictions on your choices among the various Scoring Categories and Scoring Formats.  For example, if you choose the Points format for Individual Gross and wish to also use Individual USGA Net, the format for Individual Net must also be Points.  Aslo, the Member-Guest team scoring format requires that Standard Individual Gross and Net Scoring be specified.

The program automatically controls your choices to reflect the restrictions for the various combinations of scoring categories, but you should be sure to verify the selections are as you wish before you click the Save button. Note also that if you select both Team Gross and Team Net, the same format is used for both.  The User Guide contains descriptions of all the Scoring Formats and explanations of applicable restrictions.

For some Scoring Categories and Formats you are presented with an overlay screen to provide your selection of additional options.  For example, for the Member-Guest format a screen (not illustrated) is presented for your choice of separate or combined results for members and guests.  If you select the Peoria Individual Net category the overlay screen on the left is presented for your specification of the hole numbers to be used for Peoria Handicap calculations.  The User Guide contains a description of the Peoria Handicap System and how handicaps are calculated.

You have flexibility with most of the Team Scoring Formats in selecting how many balls are used in best ball scoring.  The Number of Balls used can be from 1 to 4 or Selectable by hole, and the number of balls used for Team Gross and Team Net can be different.  Selectable means you can have a different number of best balls on a hole-by-hole basis.  For example, a common choice is 1 ball on Par 3's, 2 balls on Par 4's and 3 balls on Par 5's.  When you choose Selectable and click the Save button, an overlay screen is presented on which you fill in the number of balls you wish to use on each hole.  Note that for some of the Team Scoring Formats the Number of Balls used is fixed by the program (e.g. the Member-Guest and Wheel formats use one ball only).  In these cases the program fills in the Number of Balls and does not allow you to make changes.

You may select one of the four Tiebreak Methods or choose not to use tiebreaking.  All of the methods are on a "sudden death" basis -- that is, total score ties are resolved by the first element in the method that breaks the tie.  For example, in the USGA method if Players A and B have the same total score and Player A has a lower Last 9 score than Player B, Player A places higher than Player B.

The Points Values area of the screen is activated only for the Points and Quota Points Scoring Formats.  You may choose any values you wish for the various hole scores.

The Player Thank-You Message is optional.  Its only use is on Individual Player Summaries that are available from the Results Menu.

Clicking the Save button will record your choices for use in other parts of the program.  If you click the Cancel button your current choices are ignored and any previous choices are retained.
