Scoring

Once you have provided your Event Specifications and Course Definition you are ready to enter scores for the players/teams in your event.  When you select 'Scoring' from the program menu this screen is presented for your entries.  Scoring is a simple process -- all you need to do is enter a Player Name (or Team Name), a Course Handicap (only if Net scoring is being used), and the Hole Scores for the player/team.  Note the use of the keyboard Function Keys (F10, F11, etc.) for entry of hole scores greater than 9.

The Score Summary is updated by the program as you enter hole scores.  Use the Enter Score button to record a score.  The program automatically forms the player field as you proceed from participant to participant.

You may score as many or as few players as you wish in a "scoring session."  You don't have to score all the players/teams in the same session.  You can suspend scoring at any time via the Exit Scoring button and return to Scoring later to score additional players.

Note that the program does not do better ball calculations for Teams.  If your event involves teams you must determine the better ball hole scores and enter these scores to the program.

The following material provides additional information and details about the scores entry process.

-- The Handicap value you enter is the player/team Course Handicap (not a Handicap Index).  If you are
using a percentage of handicaps the final adjusted handicap should be used.  The maximum allowable
handicap is 54.  For "Plus Handicaps" (i.e. handicaps better than zero), enter a plus sign (+) followed
by the handicap number, e.g. +2.  The maximum entry for Plus Handicaps is +9.

-- As you enter hole scores the movement from hole to hole is automatic -- you don't have to use the Tab
Key.  Enter double-digit scores via the Function  Keys on the keyboard (F1 through F10) -- e.g. F10 for
10, F1 for 11, F2 for 12, etc.  "X-Outs" and blank scores (i.e. no score on a hole) are not allowed.  If a
no-score is returned by a player/team we recommend you enter a very high score value, e.g. F9 for a
score of 19.  Total score values are updated as you enter each hole score.

-- The best way to return to a hole number for score changes is to use the mouse to place focus to the
left of the score number on the desired hole; press the Delete key to remove the existing score; then
enter the new score.  You can also use the Tab Key and Left/Right Arrow Keys to move to the desired
hole, but you may find that use of the mouse is easier and faster.

-- Partial scoring is permitted.  You don't have to score all players/teams in a single scoring session, and
you don't have to enter all the hole scores for a player/team at the same time.  This feature is especially
useful for Shotgun Starts.  You can collect and enter partial hole scores during play and then enter the
remaining scores at the end of play.  To return to a player/team for additional or changed scoring,
simply enter the Player/Team Name and press the Tab Key.  Any previously entered scores will be
displayed and you can proceed to add new scores or change existing scores.

-- Note that returning to previously scored players/teams requires exact spelling of the
Player/Team Name (you can use either upper of lower case or a combination).  The program
distinguishes between a new player/team and a previously scored player/team on the basis of a name
match.  If you happen to misspell a name in trying to return to a player/team, you will see a scores
entry screen with blank hole scores; press the Cancel button to bypass scores entry and enter the
correctly spelled name on the next screen.

When you click the Exit Scoring button, if there are any incompletely scored players/teams -- that is, if hole scores for all 18 holes have not been entered for all players for which scoring has been done -- an Incompletely Scored Players window will be presented with a list of the incompletely scored players.  You can print this list via the Print button.

When you click the Continue button you are presented with an Input Box (not illustrated) from which you can choose to Return to Scoring to complete scoring, Process Scoring Results without the incompletely scored players, or Exit to the program menu screen.  We recommend that you Return to Rcoring at this point.  If you don't, be sure to complete scoring for all players before you finalize scoring and produce final tournament results.  Leaving incompletely scored players in your final scoring files will cause unpredictable and likely incorrect Final Results.
