Player List Create / Update
This Help Topic combines information for two screens that you use to create or update a final Player List -- Player List Information and Player List Create/Update.
This feature from the Preparation Menu provide a means to create and update a final grouped Player List in one step. It is an alternative to the multi-step Player List formation process available from the Pairings Menu and is best used when your player groups (who plays with whom) are predetermined -- i.e. there is no need to do automatic pairings.
Player List Information
This screen precedes the screens used for entering (Create) or modifying (Update) player groups and is presented for both tasks. For Create, a set of default specifications is presented; for Update, your previously provided specifications are presented. In both cases you can change things as you wish, with one exception -- as noted on the screen, some Scoring Formats have a required Maximum Group Size; in these cases you cannot change the specification. The Player Handicaps area of the screen is used for your specification of the Maximum Handicap to be used in the tournament and the Percentage of Handicaps to be applied. 54 is a program limit for handicaps but you can choose a lower maximum if you wish. Note that separate values are allowed for the Primary Course and Alternate Course players. The Use Player Handicaps checkbox is used to obtain your choice as to whether or not to use and display player handicaps in your Player List entries. You will usually wish to do so but may not for events like a Gross Scramble.
The Flights area of the screen is self-explanatory. Simply click the applicable option button for the type of flighting you wish to use, or None for no flights. If you will use flights and wish to provide Flight Names instead of Flight Numbers, check the Use Flt. Names checkbox. When this box is checked a following screen is presented for you to enter Flight Names.
When you specifications are complete click the Save button to save them for program use. If you click the Cancel button Player List Create/Update is cancelled and you are returned to the Program Menu.
Player List Create/Update
The same screen is used for the Create and Update tasks. For Create, the first screen you will see will have blank information fields except for a Group Number of 1. You cannot change this Group Number or those that follow as you add player groups -- the program automatically assigns consecutive Group Numbers in the Create Process. For Update, all the information fields will be blank. Enter the Group Number for the player group you wish to update and press the Tab Key. The information for the selected group will be displayed and you may proceed to make changes as you wish.
Note: The Tab Key is the standard Windows way to exit a field and move to the next field. However, you may also use the Enter Key for field-to-field movement.

Completion of the information entries is simple and intuitive but there are a few basic things you need to understand:
PLAYER NAME: You can use upper-case or lower-case letters. Note the required use of the Slash
Character ( / ) as the first character of a name to designate Alternate Course players, and an Asterisk ( * )
as the first character of a name to mark a player for deletion from a Player Group. If you are using the
Member-Guest scoring format the names of Members must have two Dash Characters ( -- ) as the first two
characters of the member name. Examples:
Alternate Course Player: /Mary Smith
Member Name: --Joe Jones
The Slash Character is suppressed on Scorecard, Cart Sign and Bag Tag Label forms, but it must be
provided when creating or updating your Player List.)
Name Formats: The usual case is 2-part player names (e.g. John Jones). However, for use with alphabetic
lists based on last names the program supports the following variations of 3-part names:
Suffixes: John Jones Jr.
Prefixes: Dr. John Jones
Middle Initials: John T. Jones
We strongly recommend that you do not use player names with more than 3 parts.
FLT NUM (Flight Number): If you are using flights in your tournament these fields are
active; otherwise they will not appear. The number of flights you have specified is listed
under the title, or the notation "n/a" if flights are not being used.
HCP TYPE (Handicap Type): Can be I - Handicap Index, H - Course Handicap,
C - Callaway, or P - Peoria. You may place players with a mixture of Handicap Types in
a player group, except that there cannot be both Callaway and Peoria players in the
same tournament.
HANDICAP OR INDEX: Enter the Handicap Index for I-type players (note the requirement
for a decimal point in the entry), or the Course Handicap for H-type players. This field is
not active for Callaway and Peoria players.
HCP USED (Handicap Used): This is not an entry field. It is completed by the program
when you exit the HANDICAP OR INDEX field and reflects the Percentage of Handicaps
being used. For Mixed and 2-Course events you have the option to adjust player handicaps
per USGA guidelines to reflect any difference in Course Ratings between the Primary and
Alternate Tees. If you choose this option and the Course Ratings are different, the information
frame at the top of the screen includes a notation about the adjustments.
Note the INITIAL / CONFIRM box. What you see there varies slightly between the Create and Update tasks:
Create: The word INITIAL is displayed when a blank screen is presented for entry. When
you make your entries and click the Save Group button the word CONFIRM is displayed
and you can make any required changes. If you make any changes and click the Save
Group button the word RECONFIRM is displayed and continues to be displayed if you
make additional changes. When you click the Save Group button without having made
any changes a new screen is presented for the next player group.
Update: The procedure is much the same as Create, except that the process starts with
CONFIRM and a display of the information for the Group Number you have entered.
If you wish to add a new player group during Update click the Add New Group button on a blank screen. A new screen will be displayed with the next sequential Group Number and the word INITIAL in the Initial/Confirm box. The process for the new player group is then the same as in Create.
To abort entry of a player group during Create, click the Cancel Group button. To delete an entire player group from your Player List during Update, click the Delete Group button.
For the Par Quota team scoring format the Basis Number, Team Handicap and Team Points Quota are displayed the area of the screen under the player information fields on the CONFIRM and RECONFIRM screens.
When you complete work on your Player List click the End Player List Create or End Player List Update button (the button caption will be one or the other depending on which task you are performing). Your Player List is then saved and you are presented with a prompt box with an option to display and print the Player List Report. You may wish to defer report printing until after you've assigned Start Times and Tees to the Player List, but it's a good idea to accept the option each time you work on your Player List so that you can display the entire list and ensure that it's as you wish.

When you choose to print the Player List Report you are first presented with the above option boxes for selecting the sort sequence in which you wish to have the report presented. When you click the Continue button the report is presented for viewing. Click the Print button at the bottom of the form if you wish to obtain a printed copy. If you wish to obtain additional copies of the report simply click the Print button again for each additional copy. The following illustration shows a Player List presented in Start Time sequence with Hole #1 being used as starting hole for all player groups.

Notice the New Sort button on the above screen. If you wish to obtain a display and printed report of your Player List in a different sort sequence than your original selection, click this button. The displayed Player List will be cleared and you will be returned to the screen that conatins the option buttons for the various sort sequences. You can then select another sort sequence or exit.
Important Note:
You may update your Player List as often as you wish before starting Scoring. When you start Scoring the existing Player List is used to create score files. If you update your Player List after you start Scoring, the score files will not reflect these updates and you will have to provide the changed information during scoring (which slows down the scoring task) or start Scoring over again.
