Automatic Start Time / Tee Assignments
Once you have a final grouped Player List you have the option to assign Start Times and/or Tee Numbers to each Player Group. These assignments are made initially via a Create choice from the Start Time/Tee Assignments submenu of the Preparation Menu. Two Create methods are available -- Automatic and User Specified. Once you have made initial assignments they can be modified by the Update choice from the submenu. At the end of each Create or Update session you are presented with an option to display and print a Player List Report that includes the assignments. There is also a separate submenu choice for just displaying and printing existing assignments.
The two display screens used for Automatic Assignments are simple and intuitive. You can use up to four separate TIME PERIODS for your assignments, although you will usually use no more than two periods. If play will be continuous starting at a certain time, you will need to use only one period. If, for example, you will have separate morning and afternoon starts, you will need two periods. You must define at least one Time Period. Note the HHMMA/P format required for your time entries, where A is used for AM times and P is used for PM times. For each Time Period you wish to use simply enter the FIRST TIME and LAST TIME and the INCREMENT to be used between times, and indicate the TEES USAGE you desire by clicking the corresponding 1st Tee and/or 10th Tee checkboxes. Next, enter the Maximum Group Size you wish to use. Note that you have the option to combine groups of less than the Maximum Group Size. This option might be used, for example, if your Player Groups are twosomes but you wish conduct play in foursomes. You also have the option to Use Starter Times in your assignments; if used the program automatically inserts these times per the Starter Times Increment you specify.
If your Player List has been formed from GTM's Multi-Day Re-Pairing feature, click the corresponding checkbox at the bottom of the screen. When you make this selection and have specified use of both Tee 1 and Tee 10 in your tee assignments, you are presented with an input box from which you can choose to do Start Time/Tee assignments by the Reverse Horseshoe Method. This method, which is often used on the professional tours for the last two rounds, splits the player field in two halves based on player scores; it assigns the half with the lower scores to Tee #1 in reverse time order of the scores (lowest scores have the latest times), and the other half to Tee #10 in direct order of the scores (highest scores have the latest times). This ensures that the previous day's leaders will start and finish last.
If you wish to use Cart Assignments in your Player List you can do so by marking the Use Cart Assignments on Update check box and then updating your automatic Start Times/Tees assignments via the Update Existing Assignments choice from the Start Times/Tees Assignments submenu of the Preparation Menu. See the User Specified Start Time / Tee Assignments Help Topic.
Important Note: Be careful in assigning the LAST TIME in your Time Period(s) so that there is a sufficient number of times for the number of Player Groups you wish to start in the period(s). If you are using a single Time Period, we suggest you use a LAST TIME well beyond what you think you need. The program will use only the times required. If you are using multiple Time Periods, also be sure that they don't overlap.
Note to GTP/GTS Users: The format of the Time entries is different in GTM, i.e. HHMMA or HHMMP versus HH:MM-A or HH:MM-P. The entry for Hours (HH) must be from 00 to 12; the entry for Minutes (MM) must be from 00 to 59.
When you have completed your entries click the Save Button. You are then presented with the Start Times Assignment Methods screen which gives you some additional flexibility in how automatic assignments are made. The most common method is to use Straight Assignments from your Player List, which you can do in either a Forward or Reverse Sequence. You can also choose to place a specific Number of Groups in each Time Period, also with a Forward or Reverse Sequence option. Finally, if you are using flights in the tournament you can choose to place specific Flight Numbers in each Time Period in the sequence you wish to have them placed. When you have made your selections for these options click the Save Selections button. You are then presented with an option to display and print a Player List Report that includes your assignments.
