Master Player List Create/Update

The Master Player List is the base point from which to do your pairings and/or flighting of individual players or teams.  Simply, it consists of all of the players who can potentially play in the selected tournament, along with Gender and Handicap Information for them.  A Master List must exist before you can proceed to select players for the tournament and form them into player groups and/or flights.  It can be Created in two ways:

          1. Manually by filling in the screen fields for Gender, Player Name and either Handicap Index or
Course Handicap.  If you enter a Handicap Index the Course Handicap is calculated automatically
and displayed by the program based on the player's gender and the applicable Slope Rating.  The
              displayed Slope Ratings are either those provided in your Tournament Information or default values;
they may be changed to any values you wish.  Player Numbers are provided automatically by the
program when you use the Manual method.

          2. Via Import from either SportsWare's GHM Handicap Program or a GHIN-Windows Handicap System.
In both cases you must first have created a file from the handicap program.  See the GHM User Guide
for details on how to create this file from the GHM Program.  For import from GHIN see the link at the
end of this topic.  When the Master Player List is imported from GHM this screen is completed
automatically from the file.  Imports from GHIN are preceded by a specifications screen.  In both
cases the Master Player List will contain Player Numbers as they exist in the handicap database.

If a Master Player List already exists for the selected tournament its contents are displayed and you may proceed to Update it as you wish.  Updates are made simply by overwriting or deleting existing information, or by adding new players to the list. Note that the Clear List button provides a means to start a new list by the Manual method.  If you wish to delete an individual player from the Master Player List, delete the information in the PLAYER NAME field for the player to be deleted.

Note: Whenever you Update a Master Player List any Player Selections made previously are cleared - the program assumes you will do new selections from the updated list.  If you wish to add players to your previous selections you may do so independently of the Master Player List via the Tournament Players List choice from the Pairings Menu.

If your Master Player List consists of more than 30 players, Previous and Next buttons are displayed and may be used to navigate through the list.  The Print Report and Signup Sheet buttons are used to prepare a printed copy of the Master List; the latter includes an area for players to mark their entry into the tournament.  When you complete your work on the Master Player List use the Save/Exit button to save the list and exit the feature.

Important Note: The Master Player Lists for the 10 tournaments available to you on the Tournament Selection Screen are independent of one another.  That is, the list for each tournament  is unique and must be created separately.

If you wish to use a given list for multiple tournaments you can copy a list from one tournament to another.  The name of the file to copy is MFOP.DAT and you can use the Windows Copy and Paste facilities to do the copying.  To do so, use Windows Explorer or My Computer to locate the file to copy in the TRNLIST\TRNx folder, where "x" is the Tournament Number you used to create the file.  Then, click on the file to highlight it; select 'Edit' from the menu bar; and click 'Copy' from the Edit Menu.  Next, locate the TRNLIST\TRNx folder for the Tournament Number to which you wish to copy the file; double-click the folder to open it; select 'Edit' from the menu bar; and click 'Paste' to place the file in the folder.

If your lists are imported from the GHM or GHIN handicap systems, you can also create the Master Player List file from the handicap program separately for each tournament.

Player Name Formats:
Some care is required in how you format player names to ensure that first and last names are formed correctly when names from the Master Player List are presented alphabetically for Player Selection and in the Tournament Players List.  GTM is primarily oriented to the usual 2-part names (e.g. John Jones) but also supports the following name formats that will result in correct last names for alphabetic presentation:

          - Middle Initials: John T. Jones
          - Suffixes: John Jones Jr.
          - Prefixes: Dr. John Jones
          - 3-Part Names: John Paul Jones

Player Names with more than 3 parts should not be used.  We recommend that you review your Master Player List for compliance with this restriction.
