Staff Entry of Scores

The addition of player scores by the staff is easily accomplished via the Add Scores button on the Player Maintenance Screen.  Clicking this button results in display of the Add Scores Screen illustrated below.  This screen as presented initially contains default information for the current date and the Course and Slope Ratings for the player's defined Home Course.  You can use the Change Course and Change Date buttons to change these defaults as necessary; in these cases, simple overlay screens (not illustrated) are presented for your selections.

Entering a "standard" score (18-hole, non-Tournament, non-Away, non-Penalty score) is as simple as entering the score number in the Score text box.  As necessary, you can change the Date and Ratings information, and/or designate the score as an Away Score (A) or Penalty Score (P), for each of the up to 20 scores you can enter in a single use of the screen.  For ease in editing, the Date and Course Rating fields are masked text boxes that retain the separator charcters (the Slash Character in Dates and the Decimal Point in Course Rating) as you edit the field content; you do not need to enter these characters as you make changes.  The easiest way to change these fields is to delete the entire contents and enter just the numbers for the changed information.

The Make T-Score and Make 9H Score buttons are used to designate Tournament Scores and 9-Hole Scores, respectively.  The buttons are "toggle switches" for Make/Unmake of the score types.  The same color coding used on the Player Maintenance Screen is used for these score types.  When you click the Make 9H Score button the Ratings information for the default or selected course is displayed automatically by the program.  When you have entered all the scores you wish to post click the Save Scores / Exit button to save the scores to the handicap database and return to the Player Maintenance Screen.  Clicking the Don't Save / Exit button results in ignoring any scores on the screen and a return to the Player Maintenance Screen.

The USGA Handicap System includes an option for Type 1 and Type 2 golf clubs (and a mandatory requirement for Type 3 clubs) to associate a Course Name with posted scores.  A Type 1 golf club, which is the usual case, is one where the golf club that is issuing handicaps has a golf course associated with it (see the USGA Handicap System Manual for the definition of Type 2 and Type 3 golf clubs).  For all cases the GHM Program gives you the option of assoociating Course Names with posted scores.  Your choice is provided via a System Parameter.  The program automatically includes a Course Name for scores posted on Home Courses and defined Outside Courses.  For Away Scores on courses other than defined Outside Courses, if you have chosen to associate Course Name with posted scores you are prompted to enter a Course name for each Away Score entered on the Add Scores screen.  The prompt(s) is presented when you click the Save Scores / Exit button.

If you wish to enter a score on a hole-by-hole basis, click the Hole-by-Hole button  The following overlay screen is presented for your entry of hole scores.  The scores you enter are automatically adjusted by the program based on the player's Course Handicap and the USGA Handicap System rules for Equitable Stroke Control (ESC).  For example, in the illustration below note that on Hole #4, a Par 4, that the player's score of 7 has been adjusted to 6 to comply with the USGA Handicap System provision that the maximum ESC score for players with Course Handicaps of less than 10 is a Double Bogey. The GHM User Guide includes a summary of the ESC rules.  When you click the Enter Score button and the ESC (Adjusted) total score is entered on the Add Scores Screen to which you are returned.
