Player Scores Entry - Introduction
The Player Scores Entry feature of the GHM Program provides a powerful and easy to use capability for your players to post their own handicap scores and/or view their handicap information. If you have our optional Handicap Card Printer your players can also print their own handicap card labels, which is convenient for them and saves you the bother of preparing handicap cards for distribution. The feature is activated from the GHM Main Menu, which results in display of the following screen.

If you are using a Shutdown Code, which we strongly recommend that you do to avoid shutdown of the feature by players, simply enter the code and click the Enter button. The complete Bulletin Board Screen is then displayed and the feature is ready for use by your players.

The information in the top section of the screen - the Bulletin Board - is provided as part of your System Parameters and can be changed as often as you wish. It provides a convenient way for you to present club news, advertise club events, promote pro shop sales, etc. Clicking the Quit Program button results in display of a text box for entry of the Shutdown Code (if used as we recommend). The program cannot be exited without entry of this code. The code should be known only to the staff so that players cannot shut down the feature. After entering the code, click the Quit Program button again to exit the Player Entry feature and returm to the Main Menu.
Beginning with Version W1.0.8 we have discontinued distribution of the optional SportsWare ScorePad keyboard for use with the Player Score Entry feature, although customers who have the ScorePad keyboard can continue to use it. We recommend use of a mouse or a touch screen display as the most convenient player interface - users can simply click (or touch) on the various colored buttons to select an action. However, for customers who wish to use a standard computer keyboard, we have added notation for the equivalent keyboard Function Keys. Note that a keyboard must be used for the very few items that require information entry - Player ID, Player Access Code (if used) and Score.
The five white buttons in the lower part of the screen are used by a player to access the various parts of the Player Score Entry feature. Clicking of any of these buttons results in a new screen on which the player enters his/her Player ID and, if one has been established, the player's Access Code.
Player ID entries may be the player's ID that was created when the player was added to the handicap database or the player's Last Name. If an ID is entered, or if a Last Name entry is the only such last name in the handicap database, the program proceeds to an entry of the player's Access Code if one is being used, or directly to the screen for the selected button on the Bulletin Board screen.
The illustration on the left shows a Last Name entry. Note that the entry can contain either upper case or lower case letters, or a combination of both. Also, it is not required to enter a full last name - partial names consisting of the first few letters of a last name are permitted.
If there are multiple names in the handicap database that match the name entry, the screen illustrated below is presented for selection of the player's name. All last names which match the Last Name entry are presented.

Notes: Use of the Last Name option requires that there are no numbers in the last names of your players. Also, the option cannot be used with the SportsWare ScorePad keyboard because the ScorePad does not contain alphabetic characters.
The links at the bottom of this topic will take you to Help Topics for each of the six action buttons. The link for ENTER A SCORE contains additional links to screens that comprise the straightforward score entry process. All of these score entry screens have HELP and QUIT buttons. The former provide player access to specific assistance for each screen that is independent of this program-wide Help System; the latter is an "escape valve" that allows the player to start over with the entry of a score.
