Player Scores Entry - Enter a Score
Your players post scores to the handicap system via a straightforward and intuitive series of display screens, the first of which is the Type of Score Screen illustrated at the left. Note the elements that define a Standard Score. They specify a non-Tournament score on Today's Date. The elements for Type of Score and Course Played are tailored for each player based on his/her defined Handicap Type (18-Hole or 9-Hole) and defined Home Course (18-Hole and Course #1 are the defaults if these definitions are not included in a player's information). Entry of a Total Score is the default unless you have specified in your Player Entry System Parameters that Hole-by-Hole entry is required.
Selecting a Standard Score provides the easiest and quickest way for a player to enter a score. As you will see below, this results in a screen on which the player simply enters the score and proceeds to the Score Confirmation Screen.
If ANY of the elements of a Standard Score is not true the player must select Other Score Type. For example, Other Score Type must be selected if the score date, type of score or tees played is other than shown in the Standard Score elements, if the score is to be posted as a Tournament Score, or if the score entry type (Total or Hole-by-Hole) is other than that shown. Selection of the score type can be made by clicking the applicable button, entering the number 1 or 2 on the keyboard, or, for a Standard Score, by clicking the ENTER Button or pressing the Enter Key on the keyboard.
Standard Score Entry
When a Standard Score that does not require hole-by-hole entry is selected, the next screen the player sees is the Score Entry Screen illustrated later in this Help Topic.
Other Score Type
When the player selects Other Score Type a series of screens is presented to collect information about the score. The first of these is a Date Played Screen (not illustrated) which contains an entry box with the current date that can be changed to the actual date of the round.
This screen follows the Date Played Screen and is used to select one or more of three elements that differ from a Standard Score. The boxes on the right of the screen are all set to NO when the screen is presented**. To designate one or more of the three score types the player simply clicks (or presses the keyboard key for) the corresponding blue buttons on the left of the screen. When any of these buttons is clicked the corresponding box on the right is changed to YES to indicate the selection (as illustrated for a Tournament Score).
** If you have specified that Hole-by-Hole score entry is required, the HBH button is disabled and YES is displayed in the box on the right.
The blue buttons are "toggle switches" which, when clicked consecutively, alternate the content of the right side boxes between NO and YES. When the player's selections are complete, clicking the ENTER button will lead to Course Played Screen illustrated below.
Note that if the only exception to a Standard Score is the Course Played (set of tees), the player should exit this screen via the ENTER button without changing the YES/NO selections in all three right side boxes. Note also that, per USGA Handicap System rules, 9-Hole Scores cannot be designated as Tournament Scores; the program will not allow this combination and informs the player via a message box.
The following Course Played Screen is easily handled by the player. It presents for selection a list of the Home Courses (sets of tees) you have defined in the Course Definitions area of System Parameters and a Played Another Course item for specifying an Away Course. If Played Another Course is selected and you have defined Outside Courses in your System Parameters, a screen (not illustrated) with a list of these courses is presented for selection in the same way as the selection of a Home Course. The Outside Courses screen includes an Undefined Course selection for courses not on the list. If Outside Courses have not been defined, or if Undefined Course is selected, a screen (not illustrated) is presented with text boxes for entry of the course's Course and Slope Ratings.
Note: An Outside Course (Away Course) cannot be used for Hole-by-Hole score entry because there is not a detailed course definition with hole Pars with which to apply Equitable Stroke Control limits. If hole-by-hole entry is being done and Played Another Course is selected, a message box informs the player that the score can be entered as a Total Score. Equitable Stroke Control is not applied in this case.

For either a Standard Score that does nor require hole-by-hole entry, or an Other Score Type for which hole-by-hole entry has not been selected, the following Score Entry Screen is presented. Entry of hole-by-hole scores is described and illustrated in the Staff Entry of Scores Help Topic.

All the player needs to do on this screen is enter the score total and click the ENTER button or press the Enter Key on the keyboard. (If the score being entered is a 9-Hole Score the text above the score entry box will be ENTER 9-HOLE SCORE). The player will then see the Score Confirmation Screen illustrated below.
The Date and Ratings information for the new score is presented at the top of the screen. The player may either confirm a single score via the Record This Score button and exit via the ENTER button or keypress, or proceed to enter additional scores via the Record Score and Add Another button. When the last desired score is entered, exit is via the Record This Score and ENTER buttons. The player is then presented with his/her up-to-date handicap information as described in the Scores Info Help Topic.
That's all there is to scores entry via the Player Scores Entry feature. It's a simple and intuitive process with which your players will become familiar very quickly.
